Energy University™ by Schneider Electric Expands Curriculum

Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, today announced an expanded curriculum, additional languages and education credits, for its vendor-neutral, online educational community, Energy University™. Designed to provide the fundamentals needed to implement successful energy efficient solutions, Energy University has seen more than 21,000 registered users since its launch in June 2009. Twenty-one new courses have been added to the curriculum in 2010 to increase the educational offering to 34. Courses are available in multiple languages – English, German, and Spanish, with French, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian launching later this year. Additionally, Energy University has now launched a fully translated version of the site in Chinese, making this the first online energy efficiency program available in that country.

“By employing active energy efficiency measures, organizations can easily achieve 30 percent energy savings or more today. Energy University continues to provide a very valuable service to our industry – basic education on how customers can use energy efficiency solutions to help save money and the environment,” said Guy Dufraisse, Senior Vice President, Solutions and Energy Efficiency, Schneider Electric. “We have received excellent feedback on our course offering – more than 90 percent of surveyed users said they would recommend the program or take additional courses, which has led to the development of 21 new courses and translation to eight languages,”

Energy University courses have been submitted for approval to specific professional associations and organizations that review the content and feel the knowledge is appropriate for their membership to gain credit for continuing education as required of their membership or licensure. Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP), U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), and IEEE have either assigned credits or approved of the program to fulfill continuing education credits requirements. With this validation, Energy University is now an Energy Efficiency Coalition Partner (EEP), a USGBC Education Provider and a member of the Education Partner Program (EPP) of the IEEE.

Courses are designed to support anyone involved in the decision-making, management, planning, design, or construction of a space impacted by energy. They provide knowledge to address efficiency issues and apply safe, reliable and cost effective measures. Courses added in 2010 include:

            • Demand Response and the Smart Grid
            • Measuring and Benchmarking Energy Performance
            • Energy Efficiency Units and Concepts
            • Combined Heat and Power (Cogeneration)
            • Energy Efficiency with Building Automation Systems
            • Financing and Performance Contracting for Energy Efficient Projects
            • Energy Rate Structures: Concepts and Unit Pricing
            • Energy Audits Instrumentation
            • HVAC and Psychometric Charts
            • Industrial Insulation

Each course can typically be completed in less than one hour and the added ease of an online platform makes learning convenient and accessible from any internet-ready computer. The self-paced learning experience is enhanced by an accompanying quiz for success measurement and preparation for the certification to be launched in 2011. The certification verifies that a user has a broad understanding of energy management and is able to effectively engage in audit and measurement, prioritization, selection, management and maintenance of solutions, and promotion of energy awareness.
